August 2002 Garden Party Print

Well 1st August and Jennifer’s Garden Party.

Once again it was a success, what a wonderful day was had by all.

The gardens looked a picture, all set out with tables, chairs, and umbrellas. The weather had all been set for rain, but it was an absolutely, beautiful day with blue skies and not a cloud to be seen. A Gazebo had been set up for those who wanted to keep out of the sun. So all was set, for a great day.

Soon people were arriving for coffee, and laughter was filling the garden, as people met up with old friends, or wandered among the many outdoor plants that were for sale, picked up bargins from the bric a brac stall, or browsed among the many books to be had.

Rita had people diving into their purses to buy raffle tickets, on seeing the wonderful selection of prizes from whisky brandy and sherry all donated by members and friends. Allison mean while was manning the tombolla stall. There was a selection of Jennifer’s Home Grown Produce, which has always proved popular and very soon went. Pat was in charge of the fruit basket. While Val and myself, were in charge of collecting the entrance fee and taking orders for lunch.

Before long it was time for lunch and the kitchen was a buzz of activity, as Jennifer her two daughters and Cissey, were up to their necks in cheese salad, sausages and pate ploughman’s.While Pat’s Husband Rod donned a frilly white apron and served lunch to us all, this caused a great, source of amusement.

Dr Wojtulewski our President was unable to come, but we were delighted to welcome his wife who came with Gwyneth who was our Specialist Nurse and who is now working on the research side, they wandered and chatted with families and friends.

The raffle was, drawn with great hilarity, and then people sat around relaxed and chatted, and bathed in the warm sunshine.

On a lighter note, Jennifer’s ornamental pigs, Mum Priscilla and babies Pinkie, Perky and Percy are still roaming the orchard and are a pleasure to see.

Once again, we must say a Big Thank You to Jennifer and Roland for opening up their home, to raise money for the League of Friends at Eastbourne District General. Hospital. The amount raised for the hospital was £190. A great thank you to all members and friends.

Thank You
