Rascals Xmas Speech 2009 PDF Print E-mail

It is lovely to see so many of you here for yet another year, and hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas lunch.

I am glad to be able to welcome Dr Wojtulewski and his wife also Gwynneth, Sue and Kathy  from Firwood House who have done so much by supporting our meetings and giving members advice and help. And of course not  forgetting all Members family and friends.

This year has flown by quicker than ever and it has not been with out its ups and downs. Firstly I am sorry I have not been able to attend many of the events this year either I have been getting over ops or feeling poorly.

January brought us in some new members which I am pleased to say and has gone on gradually through the year.

February we had Katy’s Quiz which was great fun. There was a good turnout for Paradise Park in March and we were given a talk on the life of someone who had survived the Titanic.

April  We had a lovely lunch at Chalk Farm which was enjoyed by all.
We are so happy to have Maureen with us today. Unexpectedly, in April after having an operation Dennis  sadly died at home, which was a great loss to us all at Rascals, as he was not only the life and soul of the Hydro pool but also meetings and social events. Dennis would have been thrilled to know that donations from family and friends enabled Rascals to purchase  a duel operational wheel chair with plaque for the use of the group, with the money over we were able to buy a hairdryer and plaque for the hydro pool where he much enjoyed his time, especially splashing all the girls.

We had a coffee morning in May and had a lovely time at our craft afternoon where people brought all sorts of interesting items their was card making, Jewellery, Genealogy, Knitted toys and baskets and many other things.

June was the Summer lunch which was at Dean lands

July we had our strawberry cream tea at William Daly where Pauline and Maggie had worked very hard making  delicious home made scones  the donations went towards Rascals funds.

In August we had lunch at the Harvester Pole gate and in September brought a delightful  interesting exhibition and talk on Quilting by Mandy Shaw for those of you who are interested she had said she would be on Channel 4 Kirstyties  Home made Christmas which is on tonight but it has been on tues and Wed of this week.

September brought our long awaited outing to Heaven Farm, while October every one was eagerly looking forward to Katy’s Quiz which was done with lots of laughs and a good time was had by all.

Novembers meeting was our final meeting of the year and also our last at William Daley their were mince pies and Christmas Cake and the Ever Green Singers who came and sung a selection of songs from musicals for us.

Which now brings me up to now. Your present committee is prepared to serve for a further year, if you will have us, but if any one wishes to be nominated would you please advise me before the agm in January.

Talking about the committee  I would just like to say a big thank you to Val Tina Pauline Katie and Jennifer for the exceptional hard work and time they put in to arrange events and outings and hope we have managed to keep you interested. (I think they deserve a round of applause)

Our next meeting is our AGM on Thursday January 14th at St Wilfred’s Church Hall Pevensey Bay 1.45pm there is ample room for parking outside

Finally I would like to say a Big Thank you to the York House Hotel staff for a splendid meal and for making us most welcome  and would like to wish every one of you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
